Review of Death Sentence (2007) by Thescarlatescu R — 26 Sep 2010
For all thats wrong with this movie I feel the positives outweigh the negatives, unique in its genre as it does not advocate vigilantism in the slightest.never once does kevin bacons character come off as heroic.
That being said this is a very poorly written film loosely based on a novel by brian garfeild which was a sequel to his book "death wish"later made into the film starring charles bronson.almost every aspect of the screenplay falls flat the dialouge not withstanding.
However the action sequences and the performaces I feel make the movie at least worth watching.every actor is at the top of their game(aside from kelly preston but when has she ever been good?).first you have kevin bacon turning in yet another excellent performance as a father pushed firmly off the edge, then theres the equally(and sadly underused)john goodman as the flipside of the coin.
However the real standout here is garrett hedlund who virtually dissapears into the role of billy darly, his performance is the stuff of nightmares,i had only seen him in a few other roles such as "four brothers"and after realising it was the same person I found it hard to believe it was the sme person.
This is ultimately an exploitation movie disguised as a morality tale but still worth watching if at least only for the acting.
