Review of Death on the Nile (2022) by Mauro_Lanari — 06 Apr 2022
(Mauro Lanari).
If in the previous transposition Branagh's Poirot had an ethics (a Christian one: see the concluding "Last Supper"), in this he has a psychology and a heart, a wounded affectivity, a struck to death sentiment. "The film should be this: red with love and red with blood, private and melodramatic revenge, enjoyable whodunnit and mysterious divertissement" (Simone Soranna). His adaptations of Shakespeare and Christie are anachronisms in which he tries to insert what interests him, I wonder why he does not emancipate himself from the sumptuous canovacci to express himself freely, in this case providing his own version of "1917" or, better yet, of "Paths of Glory". Oops: a matter of saga, franchise & portfolio. "Cold, calculated operation" (ibid.).
