Review of Death of a President (2006) by Jen M — 09 Nov 2006
A fake documentary about the fictional assasination of George W. Bush in October 2007 in Chicago. All the controversy surrounding this movie is really sad seeing as how the movie is not the button-pusher you'd think it is.
Instead of being a movie about how things would be better or worse is Bush was dead, this is a whodunnit with news footage. It's really surprisingly small-minded given the subject matter, but it suceeds, even after you realize the stronger implications of Bush's death never really get out of hand on a Global scale.
World War III does not break out, and the chain effect is disappointgly small. The ending is kind of flat, too, but it stays true to the "documentary" feel, as reality doesn't always have meaningful flourishes at the end; on the other hand, this isn't reality, it's a fucking movie, and I was a little unimpressed when the credits began to roll.
