Review of Death Note (2017) by Firefistyamaan — 24 Aug 2017
So, yes the movie isn't perfect but it's still a step up in live action movies based on anime. An original take on the famous manga of the same name, Netflix Death Note does some thinks brilliantly while not so good on other parts.
The best part about the movie was that halfway trough it made me really nervous and it really feelt like watching a thriller, which Death Note is all about. Ryuk's casting was fantastic even though I didn't really like the part he played in the movie. L is perfectly the L we are familiar with but I liked this L. Yes he's black but so what? He showed emotions which made me suffer with him and showed alot of anger towards the end.
So yes there were good things with this movie, now on to the bad parts.
Light is supposed to be this cool, good looking guy who's a tactical genius, well he's not in this movie. He belives alot more in justice but ultimately makes wrong decisions which lead to.......... NOT GONNA SPOIL. Yes it's a bit rushed but what can you expect from a movie adaptation of a 100 chapter + manga? It's a big step up which made me feel nervous, yes some parts were not so good, specially light. But in the end I enjoyed it, probably not gonna re watch it anytime soon but it was a decent 1 time experience.
