This film is far less awful than the flood of incensed fan reviews suggests; that's not to say it's very good, or even holds a candle to the source material (which I loved). It's seriously hurt by a 90 minute runtime which makes the story almost incomprehensible, and a script that's trying way too hard to be "American teen movie".

Netflix's Death Note isn't completely without its moments though! There's some great performances (Ryuk and L mostly), and stylistically it's definitely cool. Ultimately, just another entertaining but forgettable popcorn movie, with a frustrating amount of wasted potential.
