Review of Death Note (2017) by Laura J — 27 Aug 2017
This movie is incredibly interesting, I highly recommend anyone on the fence to watch it. Far from perfect, and by no means a masterpiece, this movie will never bore you. For every laughable or pretentious sequence, something will always reel you back in. From the cinematography, to Willem Dafoe's amazing performance, to LaKeith Stanfield's odd take on his character.
This movie faced a great deal of criticism from fans of the original b cause it did not stay true to the source material, the setting has changed, or it moved too quickly. And as a result a lot of legitimate merit this movie has has been sadly disregarded.
Not a masterpiece, and I'd even wager it is not a "good movie" it has plenty of redeeming qualities for its many mistakes. I highly recommend anyone interested in what it means to have a "liberal yet faithful adaptation".
