They ruined the characters. Light was not portrayed as the intelligent mastermind he is while L had too much emotion. Misa was lacking her own shinigami and was the one that was used by Light after she falls for him.
So it seems netflix is doing a role reversal maybe trying to get a sequel where misa goes up against L's successor? I don't know and honestly I don't care this was a big insult to the fans.
