Review of Death Note (2017) by Luke100 — 11 Jan 2018
The problem isn't that it diverges from the original story. The problem is that there is nothing in this movie that made the original so great. The battle of wits is gone, the moral ambiguity is gone, the cleverness of almost any character is gone.
The idea of Death Note falling into the hands of a perfectly average person is tempting, and there are some plot threads I enjoyed about this movie, but there were just too few of them. For something that could've easily been brilliant, this fails on too many levels.
