Review of Death in Venice (1971) by Dom O — 24 Feb 2008
Beautifally shot, with a rich and detailed colour pallete of of colour whites and blacks. The love affair that Bogarde has for the boy is played with subtle connotations of lust and love, although ultimately doomed as he can never have (in his eyes) something so perfect with out consiquences.
A deeply rich and meserising lesson in filmmaking which uses substance and style to its advatage, drawing the viewer deeper in to his psychosis, with a score which is equally beautifal yet distrubing at the same time. truely mesmerising in its excicution and one of Visconti's best.
