Review of Death in Venice (1971) by Jc E — 23 Mar 2013
Brilliant portrayal of an aging man smitten with forbidden love and acting irrationally. He remained in the city ravaged by pestilence knowing he could die but the need to be close to his object of love overshadows all common sense and logic.
Such is the power of infatuation if is not the obsessive true love itself. Film is a faithful portrayal of German author Thomas Mann. The film is best seen in tandem with reading of the novel.
