Review of Death Defying Acts (2007) by Sol C — 21 May 2011
Historical inaccuracy aside, a well-made and entertaining period melodrama. The production values are appropriately lavish, and Guy Pearce, Saoirse Ronan, and Timothy Spall are great as usual - though I was quite surprised by how good Catherine Zeta-Jones is in this, making me aware of how unfamiliar I am with her as an actress.
Not anything extraordinary, but a stylish, satisfying film that deserved a wider release than it got.
