Review of Death Defying Acts (2007) by Andrew I — 04 Jan 2010
I liked The Illusionist and I liked The Prestige, so a similar genre film about Houdini in Scotland made by the BBC would be good too, right? Well, not quite. There isn't much "death defying" in it and it drags for a while at frequent intervals.
It looks good throughout (especially the rooftop gargoyle scenes) in a 'made for tv' movie kind of way, the plot is almost clever towards the end and it's not overly long, but somehow it just doesn't hang together or grip your interest.
A curate's egg of a film.
