Review of Death and the Maiden (2003) by Michael O — 30 Apr 2009
Una obra maestra completa. Ariel Dorfman's play conducts a bitter, symphonic voyage into the depths of love, power, politics, marriage, lies, and redemption through a poetic torrent of bare words and satirical rhythms.
Luckily, Roman Polanski directed this movie because this is one of the definitive screen translations of any play including the best performances I've ever seen from any of the cast's entire careers.
I was as seduced by sadism, doubt, revenge, and desire as any of the characters in the film. The play and the film are chilling reminders of how even to this day of the effects of a totalitarian dictatorship has left engraved into a nation after the rape of a people and their democracy.
