Review of Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008) by Jeremy R — 05 Jan 2009

A film equal parts infuriating and heartwarming. To say anything of what happens in it would be a disservice to anyone who watches. This is a film that needs to be experienced with as little prior knowledge as possible to fully feel all the emotions that are dredged up by a story that would seem implausible were it not 100% true.

Kuenne's editing tricks suggest he doesn't have full faith in his subjects (even though that is clearly not true) and slighlty take away some of the effectiveness, but the impact is hard to deny.

I think it will be years before I visit Canada, and this film proves there are people in this world worse than Hitler.
