Review of Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008) by Chris W — 21 Apr 2009
It's a rare film that elicits nearly every possible emotional reaction from me, but this did it. The DVD cover describes "Dear Zachary" as a true crime story, but that doesn't do justice to this documentary about one man's murder and the people affected by it.
A painful film that is at once touching, infuriating, devastating and emotionally resonant. There were times I chuckled and times I screamed at the TV in rage and I'm still wiping the tears from my eyes--tears of sadness, yes, but also tears from seeing the goodness on display in Kate and David Bagby, whose story deserves to be heard.
A great movie.
