Review of Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008) by Tony U — 07 Jul 2009
At first this documentary starts off as cluttered imagery of a movie director reflecting on the death of a good friend who he grew up with who was found murdered in a park by 5 bullets.
But the documentary comes into a gradual, painful, and maddening focus that reduced me to tears in an agony that I hope I will never have to experience directly in my life on any level.
Somehow, the directors pulls the viewer from this hellish event and places us into a hope and purpose that makes us see how beauty in life can be discovered amid the rubble and dark fragments of insanity that never should have happened once, let alone twice.
A painful, disturbing movie that is miraculously uplifting.
