Review of Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008) by Vic R — 28 Dec 2009
This is an often effective documentary but becomes downright ghoulish by the end. It is not so much the content of the material as its structure. This kind of rug-pulling is very effective in melodrama but left a bad aftertaste for me.
As visceral as the shocks were, I felt it took advantage of the audience as well as the victims of the crime. All that said, the facts of the case are well worth knowing and anyone planning to watch this should not read up on the case to experience the full nauseating impact of each revelation.
