Review of Dear White People (2014) by David L — 01 Feb 2015
Dear White People has excellent performances from its talented cast, interesting varied score, fine screenplay and it has a couple of very powerful dramatic sequences. It is a complex and well written, modern and relevant, honest and involving look at race relations today with terrific character arcs (especially that of Sam), but it is also not particularly well directed and it often feels like an extended episode of a TV instead of a movie, not to mention the often overwhelmingly angry tone and abrupt beginning.
It is quite a good movie definitely worth a watch, but due to the aforementioned problems, it never quite makes use of its great potential.
