Review of Dear White People (2014) by Michael S — 28 Oct 2014
One of the best and most relevant films of the year so far. Dear White People is a fantastic film that satirizes the notion of a Post-racism American. Something that hasn't been tackled in quite this way before.
The film almost feels like a stage play through the sort of minor quirkiness Wes Anderson might put into his films. I don't think the entire movie is successful but most of my problems are technical as opposed to narrative.
The characters are fleshed out, individual, and more complex than they seem at the beginning. I think what works best is that movie doesn't pretend to have all the answers, and it isn't afraid to present different views and sides of the same issue.
All in all this is a timely film that everyone should get to the theater and see.
