Review of Dear Mr. Gacy (2010) by Jeff H — 20 Dec 2010
Surprisingly excellent little film about the true story of teenager Jason Moss who for a school project decided to try and get into the mind of one of the most notorious serial killers in American History john Wayne Gacy by writing to him on death row.
The film succeeds in getting under your skin from the start and continues to make you feel uneasy throughout. William Forsythe is extremely creepy and disturbing as Gacy and Jesse Moss is also good as Jason Moss (weird coincidence with the names??).
The filmmakers have succeeded in making a film that really gives the viewer the same claustrophobic feeling that Moss must surely have been feeling himself as he got sucked more and more into the world and mind of a truly sick and twisted individual.
How true this film is to the book written by Moss called 'The Last Victim' I am unsure having not read it but there is no doubt that this is both a compelling story and very interesting film.
