I'm a sucker for stories involving distressed love. So I enjoyed the movie, but I do agree that the movie is a big cliche - and it seems a good part of the movie is John or Savannah reading letters before the inevitable Dear John letter.
I was impressed by Richard Jenkin's portrayal of John's father. He's a great actor.
