Review of Dear John (1964) by Bianca G — 04 Dec 2011
Now, before all you men out there start judging me, I actually liked The Notebook, so it was only fair I at least gave this film a shot.. even if the leading actor was.. Channing Tatum.. Sorry, threw up in my mouth a little there.
Anyways, the movie wasn't half bad! I thought Seyfried was quite good, so it will be interesting to see if this role gets her career rolling in the same way The Notebook did for Rachael McAdams, and the chemistry she shared with Tatum was real.
Yes, the film was totally over the top, but that's the whole point, that's what makes it entertaining and interesting. Mind you, the last quarter of the movie kind disrupted the whole flow of things, but at the same time it was pleasant to see a different take on the traditional sappy romantic conclusion.
Overall, while far from perfect, Dear John actually exceeded my expectations, so if you're looking for a chick flick to get through a rainy night with your g/f, you should be able to survive this one boys.
