Review of Deadpool (2016) by Ryan B — 18 Jun 2018
Instantly goes down as one of the best comic book adaptations ever put to film. Ryan Reynolds IS Wade Wilson, Wade Wilson IS Ryan Reynolds. So much about what I loved in this movie was in my first review I wrote after watching it. 1 year after its release and with the benefit of hindsight and multiple revisits, I realize what an impressive and unlikely movie this was. After comic book movies had been trying so hard to follow the formulas of better movies, Deadpool was unique.
Deadpool is also the best comedy of the year, the best blockbuster of the year, the best underdog story of the year. And really that's what can be achieved when you take an original idea, great writing, great direction and a team of people (lead by Reynolds) who really want take some chances in the hope of making something special. For better or worse, Deadpool will usher in a new wave of comic book movies with R-ratings. From what I've seen from March's Logan, I couldn't be more excited.
