Review of Deadpool (2016) by Leon B — 12 Sep 2016
Review:
This has to be one of the best films that I have seen this year! The mixture of comedy and action worked extremely well, and Ryan Reynolds was the perfect choice for Wade/Deadpool. The director didn't rely on CGI or fancy camera tricks to tell Deadpool story, which was refreshing for this time and age, and expecially as it is a superhero, coming from the Marvel camp. The depth to the characters was spot on, and the whole cancer aspect gave the movie a meaning, even though the jokes were coming thick and fast right from the beginning. The innuendos throughout the movie, were cleverly written, and I sure you have to watch the film a few times to catch them all, and there wasn't too much time wasted on the love story. The X-Men characters, Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, were also a great addition to the plot, and Ajax was a decent villain but I'm looking forward to seeing someone stand toe to toe with the charismatic Deadpool. This movie proves that these comic book conversions for the big screen, all need a bit of comedy to lighten the intense storylines, like the original Fantastic Four, not the dull remake, and the ending left enough space for this extremely funny superhero to grow, especially as the budget was so low, and it made such a massive profit at the box office. It's not very often that I say this but it's definitely the type of film that you can watch time and time again, and I'm sure that the hilarious jokes will never dry up. Great!
Round-Up:
After playing the awful Green Lantern, and actually playing Wade in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds has finally come out of his downhill slump of box office failures, which include, R.I.P.D., Woman In Gold, Self/Less, Mississippi Grind and Unlikely Hero and with a Deadpool 2 planned to be released in 2018, along with Criminal starring Kevin Costner and the Hitman's Bodyguard with Samuel L. Jackson, the only way is up for this 39 year old actor, who has covered many genres since his big screen debut in 1993, in a film called Ordinary Magic. This is the first movie directed by Tim Miller, who supplied the visual effects for Hideaway in 1995 and was creative supervisor for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, so he hasn't had that much experience in the movie world but he certainly has started his career with a bang. With Deadpool 2, The Goon, Seasons and Gravel in the pipeline, this movie has pushed his career to new heights, and everyone is looking forward to seeing the sequel to this unique, and extremely funny movie.
Budget: $58million.
Worldwide Gross: $783million.
I recommend this movie to people who are into their action/adventure/comedies, starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, Brianna Hildebrand, T.J. Miller and Gina Carano. 8/10.
