Review of Deadpool (2016) by Byron B — 31 Dec 2016
Part of the Marvel franchise is this anti-X-man. Right from the start with the opening credits Deadpool's twisted, dirty sense of humor catches hold and whips us along on the ride. The action is big, the laughs are shocking, and the backstory actually builds some emotional weight that makes the battle between anti-hero and villain Ajax worthwhile.
Reynolds is so gleefully loving playing a super. Morena Baccarin as Wade/Deadpool's girlfriend shows a completely different side than her doctor character on Gotham in the DC universe. Deadpool talks directly to the audience and makes meta comic book/pop culture references to hilarious effect.
