Review of Deadpool (2016) by Cronis M — 16 Jul 2016
As far as the Deadpool movie itself is concerned once I viewed it - it was terrific and vastly entertaining ! ........ Deadpool will set a new and very unique stage and groundbreaking break through as a superhero film., it offers a various of elements that we won't normally see in a Superhero film.
-For one It works so successfully in its element to create and deliver the most hilarious jokes , a lot of times very raunchy and crude , ...but believe me the jokes, smart-aliic remarks and taught and rebuttal is just absolutely NON-STOP ROLLING, don't ever expect a scene to go by without one - it primarily will always come from Deadpool/Wade Wilson ( his alter-ego).
-Deadpool will be different in superhero movies as it offers the " 4th wall " element in this movie - which is an imaginary facial direction at the front of the audience/stage where they see the action in the world of play. Frankly speaking, Deadpool will be looking and talking directly AT YOU , the audience, in the midst of certain scenes and even while action is going on.
It also draws comical connections to other Superhero films and studios ( both Marvel and DC ) seems to work brilliantly throughout the movies - there's a poke at Marvel, DC and Green Lantern, (pay very closely if you catch it) even to the actor/character who portrays Wolverine and so on,.. from the his antics with the taxi, with the henchmen, with the pizza guy, to his girlfriend, and so on , even when he is at his greatest peril , helpless with the "Weapon X "bad guys ,he is rent less.
-Also Deadpool is more of an anti-hero that doesn't necessarily believe in bringing a villain to law enforcement/ judicial justice, but more like a blood thirsty self-vigilante who takes the law ( HIS law) into his own hands.
The film is also exceptionally good in its action -sequences, and it's rolling on energy, intrigue and fireworks from beginning to end, Deadpool offers great fight scenes, gunfire battles, sword-play, we get to see heroes, notably one from Xmen group involved, Colossus, a mutant who can transform his entire body into living organic steel and is incredibly strong , and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, (Brianna Hildenbrand) another mutant who can cause kinetic plasma atomic explosion upon forceful contact or small projection. Added to fight off vs. Colossus & Negasonic was Angel Dust (ex-MMA champ Gino Carano ) - whose size, strength and durability was vastly enhanced thru same experimental " Weapon X" program as Francis and Wilson experienced. (ditto for Wolverine).
Deadpool movie literally starts and comes into the theater scene with both an still-action.... and still delivering some funny off wall typo jokes ,even in the opening, introduction credits .
The plot summary is a pretty simple one, primarily because it pretty much follows the comic origin in how Deadpool became Deadpool-.
Deadpool/Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) who finds himself caught in a horrific crisis to save his life, only to get blackmailed and butchered , resulting in extraordinary dramatic changes to his current condition, his face and form, his abilities and the love of his relationship. Vanessa ( Morena Baccarin) Now Wilson must find a way to re-create himself, find a cure and find and get revenge on the ones responsible for his cruel tragedies.
Those cruel procedures leaves Wilson horribly disfigured and mentally unstable -which may explains a lot of the nut-ball remarks, antics and stunts he commits. But also in turn this same procedure gives him a fantastic healing process and ability to regenerate from numerous bodily injuries, toxic poisons, drugs and even some limited tolerance to telepathic mental attacks.
I personally wasn't too impressed with Francis the villain/Weapon X program boss aka " Ajax " (Ed Skrein) and thought he was just so-so, rather than one that I thought added something unique and appealing to the set. (ala Magneto, Dr. Octopus, Joker, etc) I basically thought his power abilities to fight one on one vs. Deadpool was all there was to him.
The movie simply never lets up or seems to notably come to a halting stop or drag, if it wasn't enough for Deadpool to keep up the insulting , crude jokes, even Wade's sidekick friend " Weasel" (T.J. Miller) gets his share of crude jokes under Wilson's skin. (pun intended).
Although very puzzling that it was rated R" I definitely found out curious as o why it was R" rated. But after seeing it I can now see why it " Deservingly " R" Rated ..!! Unlike other superhero movies, the raunchy crude jokes and language, blood-gushing gore, and bare sexual scenes doesn't gear it to be suitable for kids. Parental Guidance Advise Please .
The action and CGI Graphic special effects is over the top and brutal but the fighting choreography, explosiveness and the speed of the film will impress you.
Even Guardian of the Galaxy which has its own unique blend of comedy/superhero action doesn't compare to the level of Deadpool, especially since ' Pool is much more extreme violent, sexually explicit , and has a much more wildly level crude sense of humor.
This was apparently director Tim Miller's 1st featured film and he was helped brilliantly by screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, I thought Deadpool was extremely well put together for such a beginner in Miller, such that it's now has to be considered a classic.
Just to think that since there is due to be 5 more big headliner superhero movies to come in 2016, ((Batman vs. Superman,... Captain America: Civil War,.. X-Men: Apocalypse,.. Suicide Squad, and Dr. Strange) I tend to wonder how they will compare to Deadpool .
On a scale of one to 10,.. I'd give Deadpool an 9.0.
