Review of Deadgirl (2008) by Rodney S — 26 Oct 2009
Wow, this definitely has my vote as one of the most original, disturbing, and brutal horror movies of recent years. Two boys find a nude girl wrapped in plastic and clamped down on a table in an abandoned mental asylum.
She appears dead by all accounts, but when they open the plastic, her fingers move, although everything else about her would suggest, she is indeed dead. The pervert of the two, and this movie has several perverted teenagers (imagine that), decides she would make a cool sex toy, and the other boy leaves digusted with the whole thing.
When he returns, he finds a third boy with the main pervert having his way with the deadgirl, but he finds out, the deadgirl is definitely not dead by most standards, although she has her neck broken and shot three times by the main pervert.
This is definitely not an ordinary deadgirl, in fact, it may not even be human. As the story progresses, it reaches levels of sickness that few movies I have seen dare to go, but this one goes all the way.
Nothing is held back, and I would definitely not recommend "Deadgirl" for weak stomachs and it's probably a very bad idea for a date movie. The horror aspects, outside of necromancy, rape, and all that, come out in the last thirty minutes, which are indeed a thrill ride, with an ending that is memorable to say the least.
There is no relationship between MARTYRS and DEADGIRL, but for some reason, DEADGIRL reminded me of how I felt after I made it through MARTYRS for a second time. It lingers in my mind, it was disturbing as hell, and very brutal, and has some very very nice gore.
The scene where the high school jock craps his guts out, is something you have to see to believe. And also, the scene between the deadgirl and a dog is also, something you have to see to believe, because it catches you off guard.
Those aren't really spoilers, they are more like warnings. DEADGIRL is along with MARTYRS, the two most original and disturbing movies I have seen in the last year or so, and they both kick major league ass.
The DVD comes with a commentary too, which I have not listened to yet, but I can't wait. DEADGIRL is one hell of a movie, don't miss it.
