Review of Deadfall (2012) by Keating T — 07 Dec 2012
There is very little here to talk about as most of it cannot even be remembered immediately after viewing it. Deadfall does have a good cast which is surprising as I don't know how the script attracted anybody.
Eric Bana (Hulk, Munich) and Olivia Wilde (Cowboys & Aliens, Tron: Legacy) are siblings fresh off a heist. As they speed away in hopes of reaching Canada, their getaway card hits an animal in a snowy, rural area and the duo are left to fend for themselves after Bana's character shoots a policeman stopping to help because he could very likely see their stash of cash and turn them in as criminals (he's not the world's smartest criminal).
Deciding to go their own ways to avoid detection as a pair, Wilde's Liza is picked up by a fresh-out-of-prison Jay (Charlie Hunnam - "Sons of Anarchy", Nicholas Nickelby) who is wrestling with his own psychological demons after thrown a fight (yawn .
.. ). Cops (Treat Williams plays the sheriff and Kate Mara is his daughter he doesn't really appreciate) are soon on their trails and Kris Kristofferson (Ghost Rider) and Sissy Spacek (In the Bedroom) are preparing a Thanksgiving feast.
Yes ... it is random but they are Jay's parents. The film is all over the place with too many things going on during a blizzard. As the snow flies and the audience tries to see through the snow, there is little to actually see (as it doesn't really make sense or try to).
The entire film is a stretch of "sure's" and "what if's" ... it just isn't well done. There are a few snowmobile chases I thought would be cool on Hoth; but there is little else.
