Review of Dead Snow (2009) by Thomas G — 05 Oct 2011
I was wondering what the next creative thing somebody could do with zombies is (besides an idea Iâ(TM)ve got that I wonâ(TM)t share) because it feels that almost every idea has been done to death. So, whatâ(TM)s the next thing; Nazi Zombies in Norway! In this gruesome blood-and-guts fest, a group of college students travel out to the ice caps of Norway to enjoy skiing, beer, and sex. However, they happen to come across an old man who tells them of the Nazi Zombies without actually saying âNaziâ? or âZombieâ?. Obviously, they donâ(TM)t believe him and he gets killed a while after leaving. Next, the zombies kill two of the students, and the rest must fight for dear life against them. Now, this is obviously like any other slasher horror film in America. However, this happens to take more chances, has better acting/dialogue, and is at points really funny just for the absurdity. It is not until the second half of the film that you get ridiculous amounts of gore and blood (but barely any sex unfortunately). As ridiculous and stupid as this plot turns out to be, you are still very invested in the characters and are wondering whatâ(TM)s going to happen. You know, they didnâ(TM)t pull a âPiranha 3Dâ? where they say âlook, weâ(TM)re gonna make a bad movie on purpose so you could laugh at it! Isnâ(TM)t that awesome?!â?
Certain parts are played up for laughs, yet there are still some good scares to where I was leaning on the edge of my seat (literally). They are probably the most affective jump-scares in any film Iâ(TM)ve seen. It is a fun-as-hell movie to watch on a Friday night with at least three friends.
