Review of Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (2014) by Martin R — 25 Dec 2014
I LOVED this movie. I really had no idea what I was getting myself into, but boy, I'm just so damn happy that I didn't ignore it when I walked past it at Best Buy last week. I have to admit, I figured I'd be in for a treat, but I got a lasting full serving of gut-splatter.
I don't know if the spray effect was digital or not, but it looked fantastic--I can only assume that the director used practical fake blood to enhance the quality of his movie. I mean, this a movie about Nazi Zombies, you're only going to make it work if you have a really good script OR you're planning on grossing out your audience.
I know that 'Nazi Zombies' sounds like a throwback to the Call of Duty: World at War mode [that I haven't played in years since my fucking xbox died] and you'd think the movie would be a complete joke, but it's totally awesome! 'Red vs.
Dead' is pretty spot-on hilarious at times, too, so it's an enjoyable watch throughout the whole running time. It just leaves you you begging for a sequel because...I definitely want to see a Dead Snow 3.
I have never seen the first "Dead Snow" and quite frankly, I have no desire to see it. Mainly because, well, it can't better than 'Red vs. Dead'--there's just NO way that's possible.
I've been searching for a REALLY good zombie movie this year (I've watched Zombi 2 aka Zombie, Day of the Dead [original], Night of the Living Dead [1990], Re-animator, etc), but "Dead Snow 2" might just take the cake overall.
The director has made a film that's really engaging, if your eyes aren't popping out at the delicious visuals of people being ripped apart and exploding, then you're probably getting a good laugh in-between the splashes of blood.
I mean, nothing's going to replace my numero uno zombie pick--Dead Alive--but considering that I had no idea what to expect with this film, I was pleasantly surprised. This is a great horror movie; and it was a terrific Christmas present (shoutout to my mom).
On a final note: HOW in the hell is this even rated-R? I watched Wrong Turn 6 recently and that movie is supposedly unrated, the violence in that movie seemed toned down [which I obviously did NOT like].
Maybe the tank in "Dead Snow 2" was aiming at WT6 instead of the Nazi zombie leader's skull, now that I think about it.
