Review of Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead (2014) by Per Gunnar J — 20 Oct 2015
If you seen the first Dead Snow, you know how funny, and out there these movies are. I mean it's Nazi Zombies, come on, How could that not be fun? Director/Writer Tommy Wirkola definitely has a distinct vision for these films, and that vision is over the top fun, with over the top gore with some engaging characters. And both installments fire on all cylinders when it comes to humor and horror. Tommy Wirkola does a great job of balancing both, while throwing in some good scares. The second movie is my favorite though. Partially because it's in English this time(the first one was in Norwegian) so no subtitles this time, and partially because the second one does everything the first one did, except it expands on it and does it better. It has more campy horror humor, more zombies, and great additions to the cast. The Zombie Squad was an awesome idea, and the actors/actresses portraying the American Zombie Squad were spot on. Martin Starr does a fantastic job as the leader of the zombie squad. I couldn't help but busting out laughing when the two girls break into a USA chant after blowing up some Nazi Zombies, while Glenn Kenneth (played by norwegian born Stig Frode Henriksen) rolls his eyes in the background. The whole cast does a wonderful job, all the characters were engaging, and I found myself not wanting any of them to die. I really enjoyed this second installment, and I'm hoping we get to see at least one more entry to this series, because they are too much fun to not have one more.
VERDICT: A-.
A campy horror romp with a great story, with lots of humor, action, horror, and even some zombie romance. haha (No Spoilers!) Directing, Acting, and writing all top notch. Here's to a third installment... CHEERS!
