Review of Dead Silence (2007) by Jacob G — 13 May 2010
Dead Silence is sort of what I'd envision what would arise from a film director who read Freud's psychoanalysis of fear in his essay "The Uncanny" and who made a conscious attempt to make a film that embraces those ideas.
Unfortunately, the more you consciously TRY, the less likely you are to actually succeed. Dead Silence is filmed well. Quite well, actually. Has a nice nursery rhyme to highlight the infantile mindset as outlined by Freud.
But ultimately, the plot fails to really hold together and the characters lack any sort of engaging quality.
