Review of Dead Ringers (1988) by Randy B — 17 Sep 2007
Cronenberg takes two brilliant performances from Jeremy Irons and crafts a mesmerizingly dark drama about the personal, emotional, and â??psychicâ?? connections between identical twin gynecologists. This film is a lot more than a story of brotherly love, but at the same time thatâ??s its core.
Along the way, though, the film gets into all kinds of dichotomies nature vs. nurture, psychology vs. biology, sterility vs. filth. Throw in a bit of kinky behaviour and customized stainless-steel gynecological tools and you have one of Cronenbergâ??s best.
