Review of Dead Ringers (1988) by Danielle R — 02 Dec 2018
Cronenberg and the team did a great job with the special effects whenever they had the twins in the same shot. Jeremy Irons really had to put int the effort twice as much in this film. I applaud him. Very interesting how they just swap around the people that they mess around with and the women have no idea.
Two twins with identical skills and abilities but different personalities with one being stronger and more confident than the tother definitely makes for a interesting plot. That chick that Beverly falls for is foxy. Beverly is losing it and going down a deep dark hole into an abyss which he might not be able to get out.
When Beverly put on that priest-like surgical gown with the dark music playing in the background, I knew something bad was going to happen. Those tools looked gnarly. So unhygienic and radical.
Once Elliot started talking about how they have to be synchronized and that they share the same blood stream, I knew it was over for him. It's really unsettling to see just how far gone Beverly gets towards the end. It's like he's lost touch with reality. So miserable to watch two utterly successful twin doctors wash everything they worked hard for down the drain. And seeing them both delve into madness kind of hurt to watch.
This movie turned out to be creepier than I thought it would be and really dark. Another great weird piece done by Cronenberg. This movie makes an interesting statement about identical twins and making the claim that how one couldn't survive without the other. The movie just tells it in a very dark way. Impactful movie This is definitely one of those movies that I wouldn't be quick to re watch any time soon. Too dark.
