Review of Dead Ringers (1988) by Lucy G — 15 Nov 2007
1) If only this kind of thing happened to me at the gynecologist. My gynecologist is gay. SO gay.
2) Did it ever occur to anyone in this film that perhaps the actress can't have children because she's like 50 YEARS OLD and totally haggard-looking? Just a thought.
I did like the movie, though. I thought that for Cronenberg, he held back a lot on the usual realistic venereal gore that's so strong in his style. It was almost a lot creepier because of how much he held back. (At least in my mind, anything is scarier once it involves a vagina. Case in point: Cries and Whispers.) And Jeremy Irons is pretty amazing for playing two totally different characters completely flawlessly in the same moment over and over. Note to self: always get a yearly Pap smear.
