Review of Dead Ringers (1988) by Antony S — 14 Oct 2010
Not my favourite, but I still love this movie. I love all the questions about identity it raises, this movie must be a pshycologist's wet dream. I can't help but being distracted from the story by the fact that you KNOW there's only ONE jeremy irons, so your mind can't stop thinking, oh that's the double, that's how they do it, he's only showing his back to us. however, when the TWO jeremy irons are actually onscreen, the result is amazing!!! we have to remember that this is 1988, pre-cgi and stuff, and the effects are truly incredible.
One thing I would change, though, is the end. I know it's (loosely) based on a true story, but I would make them have sex together and then I would make them surgically (re-)united to become siamese twins. much better ending! not that cronenberg's one is bad, mind. but mine is better ;).
