Review of Dead Ringers (1988) by Justine S — 10 Jun 2009
I didn't feel very satisfied during and after the movie, but now that I've had a little time to reflect on it, I have a more positive view of the film. It certainly isn't a fun watch and at many points you feel the need to physically turn away from the screen, but that is the point and it's something at which David Cronenberg is very good.
I liked the ideas raised about the sense of self, although at points they were very oblique. Jeremy Irons delivers a powerhouse performance to be sure, but I wasn't too impressed with anyone else in the film.
It's not as good as Videodrome in my opinion, but it's worthwhile to watch it at least once.
