Review of Dead Man's Shoes (2004) by Jacob A — 28 Nov 2010
Many british films have tackled genres that in America, needed a lot of work on. Danny Boyle recharged the zombie films back up in business with 28 Days Later with alot of human and politcal bite. Neil Marshall humanised B-movie horror films with themes of mortality and survival with a kickass all female cast. And with Shane Meadows, we are brought the British interpretation of the revenge film. While it doesn't have the fast pace and action that American revenge films, its bleak and uncompromising to startlingly unsettling and emotional power. Something that makes it ultimately superior to ours. It may take a viewing or two for it to sink in completely but it needs to be seen by any director who'll be working in the genre.
4 Stars.
