Review of Dead Man Walking (1995) by Alan G — 08 Oct 2008
Brilliant story of a woman determined to help a man on death row. What was so amazing about the performances in particular was the fact that you are well aware of truly how horrible and evil Sean Penn's character was. He partook in acts that were essentially unforgivable. But somehow, I still found myself in tears during the last few minutes of the movie. And I did not find this film to be particularly politically driven. Yes, Susan Sarandon's character was against the death penalty, but to think the film's message was centered around that idea would be to ignore everything about the film that gave it such impact. A human being - who has never experienced the idea of grace, forgiveness, or even love finally meeting the only person that has ever shown any such feelings towards him.
And you even get to see Jack Black when he's, like, 18 years old.
