Review of Dead Man Walking (1995) by Robin H — 07 Apr 2010
See Jack Black almost outacting Sean Penn. Hear Eddie Vedder soar above and beyond any song resembling System Of A Down's hidden track. See R. Lee Ermey scream for the first time since Full Metal Jacket!
I'm kidding of course. It wasn't just almost for JB. But this is a really solid movie that raises the eternal question; "Is it just to kill the killers?". Is eye for an eye really the way to go? The escalation is superb, but Robbins always brings you back to the night of the crime, his camera pulls us literally backwards to return to defiled and nude victims forgotten in the woods. It's heavy stuff, and my heart was pounding by the end, even when you know that Sean Penn one day went on to miss the Oscar for going full retard.
