Review of Dead Man Walking (1995) by Edmund P — 01 Apr 2012
I appreciate what this movie is trying to do: humanize people as a whole by showing the good in bad people and vice versa. I also appreciate the good soundtrack and Sean Penn's lead performance, which was solid.
However, I cannot excuse the dull predictability of the story, the blandness of Sarah Sarandon's performance, or the heavy-handedness of its themes and story line. It's one thing for a movie to be bad, but it's another thing for a movie to be boring entirely.
That's something very hard for me to forgive, intentions of the movie be damned.
