Casting the very sensual Susan Sarandon as a nun was pretty inspired. She did win a Best Actress Oscar for this one. Sean Penn is great as the white trash deathrow killer. Film was directed by Sarandon's husband, Tim Robbins.
The murders that Penn commits are compared to his own death in prison at the hands of the state.
