Review of Dead Man Running (2009) by Tony P — 04 Nov 2009
Entertaining if a bit cliched little film starring the usual suspects of Brit/Cockney capers along with US rapper 50 cent.
Crafty cockney Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassan combine yet again. Hassan plays Nick (as in Nick Cotton) whose best mate for some reason is loser Dyer. They have 24 hours to fund the £100k that Nick owes loan shark 50 cent's character.
Hassan and Dyer use bare knuckle fighting (Surprisingly not Dyer! Wish someone would wipe the smirk of his face though.), dodgy betting at the dogs, dodgy drug deals, Hassan pretends to murder a Manc gangster (not Steve McDonald unfortunately), robbing a rich bondage businessman and a couple of twists to raise the dosh.
All the cockney innuendos are here including the accents, cast (Alan Ford who is an extra in all these films from The Long Good Friday on and was also on Knowing Me..Knowing You With Alan Partridge as a cockney gangster!) stars.
A short running length means the action passes quickly from scene to scene leaving the audience enjoying a thrill ride (sounds like a News Of The World film review!).
Brenda Blethyn has a light hearted small role in the film that raises a few laughs near the end.
English footballers Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole are Executive Producers of the film and there is an in joke about Ferdinand.
