Review of Dead Like Me: Life After Death (2009) by Seraphina R — 24 Feb 2009

I like most DLM fans eagerly awaited the release of this film. To only be left with disappointment. Not to say that the entire film was bad. But... first the cons, because I am so disappointed ... Mandy Patinkin does not reprise his role as Rube.

Neither does Laura Harris as Daisy (which I feel her replacement didn't quite cut it - I didn't believe her as Daisy). Mason's usual "antics" were lame and lacking. George, was the only one who fairly remained the same, but not.

There were so many continuity issues as well. George's childhood home is no longer the same, which goes against the series. ( I know its been years and sets were destroyed, but they didn't even try to explain it).

Reggie and Joy now live in a new home, and that's the same on in the flashbacks (which annoyed me), Happy Time, no longer the same office, and Der Waffle House, is just gone! Not to mention over all things that were explained in the series, and just ignored in the film, like the taking of souls, and Rube's life lessons to his reapers.

And over all, you barely see the main characters, the film revolves around George and Reggie, making the other characters simply supporting characters. After about 5 years of waiting for this film, you get no closure to from the characters you knew in the series.

This film actually left me with even more questions and left me feeling a little sad and morose. And my biggest issue is the "heroes" comic book style that they tried to turn it in to. Over all.

.. disappointed that the film did not meet the standards of the original series. But being Dead Like Me... I did enjoy it. But not happy with its outcome.
