Review of Dead Like Me: Life After Death (2009) by Patrick T — 17 Oct 2009
There are many movies based off of books, series, or even games that people never give a chance because it simply isn't the same. This is not one of them. I saw the Show-time series and fell in love with it.
I was very disappointed when the series ended and was really rooting for this film to be good. However in the first two minutes of this film you discover that one of the main characters from the show has not returned and the rest of the reapers (who enjoyed a somewhat ensemble role in the show) have been for the most part reduced to side characters.
The movies plot feels very forced and overall you hardly recognize the characters as what they were in the show. This movie has not completely lost its depth but the comedy element all but vanished. If you were a fan of the show you will probably see this movie regardless of reviews but prepare to be disappointed.
I was looking forward to them continuing this series through films but with the previously mentioned character loss even with a better script I cannot see this show ever reaching what it was as a series.
