Review of Dead Heat (1988) by Kurt A — 26 Sep 2009
The buddy cop action-comedy formula isn't difficult to understand: you take two police officers who are polar opposites and pair them up on some case. These opposite pairings can be black and white (Lethal Weapon), by-the-book and maverick (also Lethal Weapon, and Bon Cop, Bad Cop), badass and slovenly (Hot Fuzz), or just from two different cultures (also Bon Cop, Bad Cop).
But this has got to be the first time I've ever seen the pairing of LIVING cop and DEAD cop! "Dead Heat" is an awesome buddy-cop-b-movie. It's hilarious, constantly winking at itself, and loaded with camp.
The scene in the Chinese food place where our heroes are forced to fight a veritable army of undead ducks, pigs and even the carcass of a cow, is just too amazing for words. If you're a fan of b-movies, buddy cop flicks, or zombie movies, then you'll enjoy this.
This was the most fun I've had watching a movie in a while.
