Review of Dead Heat (1988) by Kevin R — 10 Mar 2010
Welcome to Zombieland!
Two police officers follow up with a research facility while investigating some strange bank robberies. While at the facility, the officers are attacked and one of them gets trapped in a decompression chamber and dies. Miraculously, a machine at the facility brings him back to life. The catch, he's a zombie. After this episode it is apparent the facility is tide to the robberies, but how?
"Hey, you're hurt.".
"Lady, I'm fucking dead.".
Mark Goldblatt, director of The Punisher (1989), delivers Dead Heat in his directorial debut. The storyline for this picture is interesting and reminded me of Night of the Creeps. The action scenes were well executed and contained the appropriate amount of gore. The acting was uneven and the cast included Treat Williams, Joe Piscopo, Vincent Price, Lindsay Frost, and Clare Kirkconnell.
"I kick one bad habit and pick up another.".
Dead Heat is a film that grabbed my attention when I discovered Vincent Price appeared in this picture. The movie was odd and unique. This was an interesting take on the zombie genre. This movie was surprisingly entertaining but contained its share of cheese. I recommend seeing this film once.
"Death doesn't discriminate.".
Grade: C+.
