Review of Dead Birds (2005) by Kelsey P — 23 Apr 2006
Much like any American horrors as of late, this film has a horrendous plot; awful, contradictory (not to mention horrifically clichéd) characters; yet still manages to scare the living shit out of us at certain points.
It has very obvious special effects designed for some of the most visceral "demons" you'll ever see on film, and the gore is, though at times fake, still unsettling to watch. It uses every trick in the horror-book, only in the 19th century, for good measure.
For example, instead of getting into a car and realizing that it won't start, they go to their horses only to find them devoured by the "demons". With the most nonsensical title to ever be bestowed upon a film, and some pretty awful dialogue, this doesn't fail to upset or unsettle, but will scare you with some of the most in your face "screams" you're bound to come across.
