Review of De-Lovely (2004) by Chris W — 24 Jan 2005
De-Lovely is an interesting, but not quite fully engaging bio pic on the life of Cole Porter. Kevin Kline plays the eccentric song writer to hide behind a somewhat bizarre marriage on order to hide his homosexuality.
The story is told through the eyes of an aging Porter and takes the viewer through virtually all aspects of Porter's life. The music, as performed by the likes of Elvis Costello, Robbie Williams and Sheryl Crow is outstanding.
. but in the end the film is missing something. I can't quite put my finger on it but there was something this film lacked that would have taken it to the next level..
