Review of De-Lovely (2004) by Burt M — 03 Aug 2008
An insipid, amateurish film about the life of Cole Porter. Loved the music and musical numbers, some great work from Robbie Williams and Sheryl Crow (?). However film was a total waste of time- felt forced and constrained within its theatrical 'this is your life' motif.
It felt like a show, not a movie but a show where the actors are trying way too hard to please and nothing feels remotely real or germaine to Porter's life. It's a sanitized, paint by numbers bio, where you'll enjoy the music and want to learn more about Porter, but the film will leave you numb.
Not recommended.
